Conference & Capture Spaces

Conference and Capture spaces use cameras, microphones, and other technology to connect students, instructors, and guest presenters from different locations. DCS deploys three types of rooms. The Immersive Synchronous lecture halls are designed to create a seamless connect with one another. Loree Hall 024 on Cook/Douglass and Wright Lab Auditorium on Busch campus have been constructed to mirror one another and are used by instructors to teach students in both room simultaneously from either location. The experience is fully immersive. Students in the room the instructor is not in view a life-size projection of the professor at the front of the room. The instructor and students can view classmates in the other space on large screens which are designed to mimic the experience of being in the same room. For more information, visit the Immersive Synchronous Lecture Hall page.

Tillett Hall 224DCS supports many rooms with technology specifically designed to videoconference and record class sessions. Videoconference & Lecture Capture spaces have built-in cameras and microphones that capture in-class video and audio alongside any presentation materials used on the room's Mac computer. Within this group of rooms we delineate two additional tiers. Certain Videoconference & Lecture Capture spaces capture the audio and video of the presenter and audience. These rooms utilize ceiling microphones dispersed throughout the classroom. They also have confidence monitors at the rear of the room. Instructors can view their presentation materials or remote students on this monitor while appearing to look at the camera installed in the same sight line. Other Videoconference & Lecture Capture rooms only have a camera and microphone pointed at the teaching area. Regardless, instructors can utilize this equipment by opening Zoom, Kaltura, Webex, BigBlueButton, or any other conference or recording application they have access to over the web. View our Conference & Lecture Capture Chart for a full list of each type of space. For more information on using these rooms to conference and record, view our instructions section.
