A Network of Help
DCS is responsible for the use of classroom technology in the general-purpose classrooms of Rutgers-New Brunswick. If we can not assist you, there are several other areas ready to help. There are various groups at Rutgers committed to addressing your technology, and teaching needs for New Brunswick, Camden, Newark, and RBHS. Here is a summary of some of the other services offered at Rutgers relating to classrooms, teaching, and technology. Click on a unit to view more information.

OTEAR supports teaching and learning through a variety of areas: pedagogy and faculty development, assessment programs, instructional technologies, classroom technologies, and faculty and staff information technologies. Some of the related services offered by OTEAR include: workshops, consultations, and seminars on personal computer technologies including MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Web Design in Dreamweaver, Desktop Publishing, PhotoShop, Adobe Acrobat (PDF), and Windows. OTEAR also offers information on podcasting.

Rutgers Computer Repair services and repairs desktop computers, laptops, and printers for a fee. This service is available to faculty, staff, and students.

Disability Services provides student-centered and student-inclusive programming in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments of 2008, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1998, and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. Among the many services it provides, Disability Services can help provide accessible classrooms and course aids (such as Extra Time for Exams, Recorders, Note Takers, and Text in Alternate Format).

Academic Media Productions has a dynamic team dedicated to enhancing the quality and effectiveness of fully online degree programs through innovative multimedia content creation. Their media specialists collaborate closely with faculty, instructional designers, and other educational stakeholders to produce engaging and pedagogically sound digital assets for a diverse range of online courses.

The Institute for Teaching, Innovation, and Inclusive Pedagogy (TIIP) is a hub for instructors that advances instruction fostering student learning and academic thriving at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. TIIP offers a variety of services to instructors of all appointment types, ranks, and disciplines at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Their support ranges from personalized consultations to departmental workshops, all designed to enhance teaching practices, improve course design, and promote student success.

The Media Productions by Continuing Studies (formerly iTV Studio) advances excellence in education, communication and lifelong learning through supporting the creation of enriching media for university leadership, faculty, staff, and students.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) works closely with faculty, senior administrators, the university’s key stakeholders and users of computer technology in developing policies, standards, processes, and procedures. They administer many of the core technology services including RUWired, RUWireless, NetIDs, and Canvas (along with integrated Canvas tools such as Kaltura). They are available to help 24/7 by calling 833-OIT-HELP. You can also visit the alerts and notices page for real-time information about issues affecting IT-related services.

New Brunswick Computing Services offers free hands-on computer training for University faculty, staff and students in Davidson Hall and the ARC computer lab on Busch Campus.

The Office of Technology & Instructional Services provides specialized technical services and support for the Business School. For assistance in Business School classrooms, please email helpdesk@business.rutgers.edu or call 973-353-1821 for Newark classrooms or 848-445-0430 for Livingston classrooms.

Media Center Services, offers moving image and recorded sound materials, including the collections of the Laurie Performing Arts Library. Among the relevant services they provide are: access to a vast collection of DVD, 16mm film, laser disc, and VHS media; a streaming service through which instructors can request that short clips of audio and video be made available to students over the web; and a clipping service through which instructors can receive a custom DVD of clips from DVDs and VHS tapes. Imaging Services copies VHS tapes and 16mms to DVD.

The SAS Information Technology Office provides IT services to the School of Arts and Sciences community. They provide a wide range of services including file and print sharing, web hosting, web design, application development, technology consulting, repair and maintenance services.

The SCI IT Services Help Desk supports the classroom technology in the SCI building on College Ave (except room 212, which DCS supports). The Help Desk is located on the first floor and can be reached by calling 848-932-5555 or emailing help@comminfo.rutgers.edu.

ITS provides IT services to Undergraduate Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. ITS provides a wide range of services including email, web hosting, content management, collaboration services, file and print sharing, application deployment, technology consulting, purchasing, project management, workstation management and repair/maintenance services of various IT equipment.

University Facilities oversees and supports the non-technology related infrastructure in Rutgers buildings and classrooms. At facilities.rutgers.edu you can submit a service request and look up the contact for getting help in a specific building. Facilities also offers several services for events, including rentals, custodial, grounds services or mechanical support from their electrical, carpentry, or plumbing divisions.
