DESCRIPTION:This four-hour session will explore the fundamentals of active learning. Instructional Designers will discuss the pedagogic underpinnings of collaboration-based learning that can inform course design\, class management\, and more. Instructional technologists will introduce you to the classrooms and technology that can enhance your teaching. Finally\, conversations with colleague and staff who are both new to and versed in active learning will help you build valuable relationships and learn from the experience of other faculty. SUMMARY:2026 Rutgers Active Learning Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The Rutgers Active Learning Symposium (RALS) is a day of discussions\, presentations\, panels\, and workshops relating to various topics in active learning. This 10th edition of the annual Symposium will serve as an opportunity for faculty and staff at Rutgers and beyond to come together to share and learn pedagogic practices in this exciting area. \nOur guest for the 2026 Rutgers Active Learning Symposium on Thursday May 21 will be Barbara Oakley. Barbara is a Professor of Engineering at Oakland University and her books\, including Uncommon Sense Teaching (Penguin Random House 2021)\, help faculty investigate how cognitive science can inform strategies to keep students motivated and engaged. \nRegistration is free and requires completing this form. Stay tuned for a Call for Proposals for the 2026 RALS.
