The pandemic has forced us to reimagine how and where class is conducted. To help faculty reach their students however they are able to attend class, DCS has increased its support of converged learning. Converged courses are comprised of students who attend class online and students who attend in-person at the same time while the instructor teaches from a classroom equipped with technology to connect them with both sets of students. During the pandemic, faculty offered converged classes so that students could choose the method of attending that was most convenient and comfortable for them. In preparation for the spring semester, DCS has introduced nine additional Synchronous Spaces, classrooms designed to connect with remote participants. While providing spaces that can be used to videoconference and stream classes has been a focus of ours for the past few years, the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed us to accelerate these efforts. As a result, Rutgers-New Brunswick is well prepared to handle an anticipated increase in the need for classes that can be used to teach converged and remote instruction classes.
